Hospital sources have said at least 48 persons were killed in the blast
that occurred at Government Science School, Potiskum, on Monday morning(10th nov.2014) and were brought to the mortuary, while 79 were brought in
injured.
Potiskum, the commercial town of Yobe state, Northeastern Nigeria, has
was thrown into pandemonium as many parents beseeched schools in the
town to pick their children back home following the bomb blast.
It was also gathered that the blast occurred during the early morning assembly of students at the.
Though no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, it is believed
to be from the terrorist group, Boko Haram, who, just last week, was
alleged to have been behind the suicide bomb attack on a Shiite
movements religious procession reported to have killed over 30 persons.
A resident of the town, Ibrahim Ahmed, who called our correspondent on
phone, said: "Potiskum has been in pandemonium since 7:45am as a bomb
was detonated at Government Science School.
"We heard a large bang and since then the area was condoned off but
ambulances have been going into the school to pick corpses and take the
injured to the hospital."
He said: "I can tell you all schools in the town have been closed now
as parents have gone to pick their children. There is wailing everyone
especially around the school where the incident happened."
The Yobe state commissioner of police, Markus Danladi, who confirmed
the incident, said he was on his way to the scene of the incident and so
he had no details.
