Rivers: Disqualify Wike, 16 Governorship Aspirant Tells PDP

All but one of the 17 governorship aspirants who took part in the ward congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers state want the exercise cancelled.
The 16 aspirants also want the national working committee to dissolve the states delegates election committee and conduct a fresh congress under the umbrella of the Rivers state mainstream coalition.

The 16 aggrieved Rivers state PDP governorship hopefuls are demanding an outright cancelation of the November 1 world congress in the state, describing the processes leading to the delegates election as highly flawed.
Another major grouse of the protesting governorship hopefuls, the PDP national working committee is the setting up of the state congress electoral committee headed by Yakubu Gambo believed to be a well-known civil servant with a federal ministry of education Nyesom Wike, one of the aspirant who served as the minister until only just weeks ago.
Professor Israel Owate, Leader of Rivers state Mainstream coalition said, “We call on the working committee to cancel the flawed Rivers state ward delegate election and disband the Doctor Gambo led electoral committee.”
For equity and justice to prevail, they have called for fresh ward congresses and the disqualification of Nyesom Wike whom they accused to corrupting the election processes.
Owate further said, “That Barrister Nyesom Wike should be disqualified as a governorship aspirant for compromising and corrupting processes leading to the ward delegate election.”
The protesting governorship aspirant was quick to clear the air on their possible defection to another party if their demands are not met.
Owate said, “We will stay in PDP, fight in PDP and win in PDP. We are going no where.”
About 11 out of the 16 governorship aspirants attended the news briefing.
