Presidency, PDP turn Amaechi to national hero –Fani-Kayode

Former minister of aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, said yesterday that the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the victimization he has been subjected to by the Presidency since his re-election as chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have turned him to a national hero.

Fani-Kayode, who is now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said it was rather disheartening that the Presidency and the PDP National Working Committee were taking sides in a matter involving two members of the party.

He noted that the development showed that the party lacked discipline, fairness and internal democracy, saying that he decided to quit the PDP because of alleged abuse of powers by the Presidency and members of National Working Committee of the party.

Fani-Kayode who served as a minister during the former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime, said with the open persecution, the Presidency and the PDP NWC were only making hero out of Amaechi.

“Their action was illogical, 35 people voted and this man scored 19 and his challenger, Governor Jonah Jang garnered 16 votes and the loser turned around to say he won the election,” he said.  The former minister made the statement at the Government House, Ado-Ekiti on Monday while formally declaring for APC during a visit to the state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayode.

“Automatically, Amaechi remains the popular wish of the Governors’ Forum, who are populated by highly distinguished and intelligent Nigerians. This had shown that no election could be scuttled by the Presidency. No matter how powerful an office or someone might be, one should be aware that there is a supreme man that is directing the affairs of men,” he said.

The former minister urged Nigerians to brace up for a titanic battle in 2015, saying the sordid scenario that dogged the outcome of the NGF election, was suffice to believe that the forthcoming election would be a charade.

“In 2015, if the PDP loses to APC and they are trying to play this kind of game with Nigerians, then they will know we all own this country,” Fani-Kayode said.
