Following the suspension of Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi
by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party has
named an 11-man committee to investigate the allegations leveled against
him.
The committee is headed by a Joe Gadzama, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
Briefing Journalists Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief
Olisa Metuh gave names of other members of the Committee as PDP National
Legal Adviser, Victor Kwon; Arc. Inalegwu Onche; Friday Nwosu; Hon.
Udorji Amedu; Ola Kukuyi; Hon. Wakil Mohammed; Yusuf Jangwe; Mrs Bola
Doherty; Barrister Tanimu Adamson and Anicho Okoro as Secretary.
Metuh, however did not give the Committee’s time frame to carry out its assignment.
The party earlier on Monday announced Amaechi suspension after an emergency meeting of its National Working Committee.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government has cried foul, saying the
suspension of Mr. Amaechi, from the Peoples Democratic Party is a
“witch-hunt’.
Commissioner of Information, Ibim Semenitari, in a statement said the party’s decision is unfortunate.
According to her, “We are concerned as we believe this is political
witch hunt,” she said, adding that “it is worrisome, because the reason
given is the suspension of the Obio Akpor council”.
“The reason given by the NWC for the suspension is not justifiable
because it is purely a legislative matter and done in accordance to the
laws of local government councils in Rivers State,” she said.
