Three persons including a trader, his son and an attendant have been
shot dead in Maiduguri by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect.
The incident occurred even as the state of emergency declared in the
state and two others in the northeast entered its seventh day. Witnesses
said the gunmen came to the trader’s shop identified as Mallam Bitrus
Koji, located at Chescon area of Pompomari, Maiduguri in a Volkswagen
Golf car on Thursady afternoon and requested for cold water from the
shop attendant, an almajiri boy.
When he went in, one of the sons of Mallam Bitrus came out and the
gunmen asked about his father. When the boy told them his father was not
around, they pushed him into the shop where they met Mallam Bitrus.
They opened fire on him, then they turned to his boy and the almajiri
killing the three in the shop,” residents said. Also, some gunmen
suspected to be perpetrators of the earlier killing were said to have
opened fire on a driver of a car who was later identified as a medical
student.
