A grab made on May 13, 2013 from a video distributed to reporters in
by purported intermediaries of the Nigerian Islamist group linked to
Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, shows the suspected leader of the Nigerian
Islamist group linked to Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, Imam Abu Muhammad Ibn
Muhammad Abubakar Ash Shekawi, also known as Abubakar Shekau, speaking
at an undisclosed location in Nigeria at Left, and on at R women and
children presented as hostages.
Abubakar Shekau has claimed two recent deadly attacks in the
northeast in the video obtained by AFP on May 13, which also depicts
women and children apparently being held hostage.
“We are the ones that carried out the Bama attack,” Abubakar Shekau
said the Hausa language, referring to the May 7 assault that killed 55
people.
He also claimed an April 16 raid in the town of Baga that sparked clashes with soldiers which killed 187.
