CPC Holds Last Convention Today, Tibubu, Shekarau Expected

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) will today holds its last convention to set the stage for dissolving into the All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of the 2015 general election.
As the polity groans under the maladministration of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the leading opposition parties, ACN, CPC, All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP) and a faction of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) resolve to float a mega party with a view to defeating the PDP in 2015.

The Board of Trustees of CPC met on Thursday in Abuja where its national leader and former head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, said the ongoing merger is giving sleepless night to President Goodluck Jonathan and the ruling PDP. Today’s convention would among other things, approve their merger with others to form the APC.
The ACN has set the ball rolling when it held its own last Convention where the merger was adopted and the all the structures of the party dissolved and this is what would happen today while that of the ANPP would follow.
Meanwhile, former Lagos State governor, Ashiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Kano State governor and presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the last election, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau would lead APC governors and chieftains to the convention in solidarity with the CPC.
After the official dissolution of the opposition parties the APC would be formed and present its national officers to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
