…Says Gov Okorocha has failed Imo natives
Oil tycoon, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah, has formally declared intension to
contest for the Anambra State governorship election, assuring natives of
the state that he would restore the pride of the state with industries,
networked security system and employment to engage the youths
meaningfully.
Ubah, who made the formal declaration when he hosted Ikoro, the
umbrella association for all practicing Igbo journalists in the FCT,
Abuja on Wednesday, lamented the spate of insecurity in the state,
stressing that kidnapping had become a viable industry for the
unemployed youths.
Recounting his ordeals in hands of the government of Anambra State,
the oil magnate boasted that considering the lives he had touched in the
state, he had no fears of winning landslide in a free and fair
election, adding that he would no longer play from the sideline. His
words: “I want to officially announce to you, for the first time, that
Ifeanyi Ubah wants to contest for the governor of Anambra State.
I want it to be on record that I made this official declaration to
contest during this meeting with Ikoro, an umbrella association for all
the practicing Igbo journalists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“I want to make it clear that I’m not seeking to become the governor
of Anambra State because of selfish enrichment but to build industries,
provide employment to our discouraged youths that are joining kidnapping
in droves out of hopelessness. “I will concentrate on security to
curtail the spate of kidnapping in the state. I will network security to
reduce crime in the state to zero level.
I want to provide employment by building industries. I have plans of
building at least 50 factories across all the local government areas.
Education and healthcare are also among the things I would focus on,”
he said. Speaking further, he noted: “We have begun our sensitisation
campaign. I want to appeal to the media to urge the government of
Anambra State to leave me alone.
I’m very sure that if there is a free and fair election in Anambra
State, I will win landslide with at least 70 percent of the votes. But
the campaign of calumny was to turn the good people of the state against
me. “I thought the battle was over until recently when my sister wedded
in Lagos a forthnight ago. 24 out of the 30 House of Assembly members
attended.
It was a record in the history of the honourable members attending a
function. 61 Igwes, 107 town union presidents and uncountable number of
traders in Anambra and environs equally attended. “However, government
has declared war against those that attended the wedding in Lagos.
During the recent summit of the Anambra State Igwes, government
disgraced them, ordering the 61 of them that attended the wedding to
stand up and return the money I gave to them.
It was embarrassing and humiliating, especially to some of them that
have been on the thrown for 63 years. “However, the government that
embarrassed the Igwes did not inform them that I equally gave them money
when I invited them to Lagos to see the type of business I’m into.
They accused the Igwes of not taking permission from President
Goodluck Jonathan before attending the wedding in Lagos but they did not
equally take permission when they did the same journey,” he noted.
Ubah equally used the opportunity to express disappointment over the
level of progress the Governor of Imo State, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has
made, stressing that his government had disappointed the Imo natives
that voted him. “The governor of Imo State has not done well in
improving the lives of the indigenes.
Although I supported him in everything during his campaign, which he
even acknowledged during his swearing-in, he has not really impressed
me. The good thing is that I never asked for contract from him,” he
quipped.
