JAMB Releases 2013 UTME Results, Probes 40 Centres

 

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the 2013 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which was written in 3,168 centres across the federation.

JAMB registrar, Prof Dibu Ojerinde, who announced this yesterday at a press conference in Abuja, said,“Details in order of merit, by courses and institutions of choice of candidates will be dispatched to universities, polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education and innovative enterprise institutes at the appropriate time for the purposes of 2013/2014 admissions exercise.’’
He revealed that many students still preferred the university system as 1,670,833 candidates applied for universities, 28,977 for polytechnics, 28,445 for colleges of education while 25 applied for innovative enterprise institutes.
The general performance of candidates in the 2013 examination shows a remarkable improvement compared to that of last year, as 127,017 scored between 1-159, 103; 489 had 160-169, 571,298 scored from 170-199, 704; 622 had 200-249, 33,115, 250-269, 628, 270-299 and only 10 candidates scored from 300 and above while 40,692 results were invalid due to either multiple shading or non-shading at all.
The board also discovered some forms of malpractice perpetrated during the conduct of the examination. Therefore, the results of 68,309 candidates from various centres are undergoing further screening to ascertain their culpability while 12,110 candidates’ results are withheld for possible disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, the board has given its website as www.jambresult.com and candidates are expected to use their registration numbers to check the result. According to Ojerinde, 40 centres will be probed over extortion from candidates by invigilators and other exam malpractice.
