Action Congress of Nigeria, Osun State
chapter, has said the support of Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko,
for the governorship ambition of a former Chairman, Senate Committee on
Appropriation, Chief Iyiola Omisore, will not save the former senator
from defeat during the 2014 governorship poll in the state.
A statement by the state Secretary of
the ACN, Mr. Adegboyega Famodun, on Monday, alleged that the Peoples
Democratic Party in Osun State was planning to rig the election in
favour of Omisore.
The statement said, “No matter what help
Omisore seeks from outside Osun, he would be humiliated at the polls.
Omisore is only chasing shadows.
“We are also aware of the rigging plan
of the PDP around Owena and neighbouring villages of Ondo State but no
matter how many mercenary voters he could get his friend in Akure to
supply him, he will fail.”
The statement came on the heels of an endorsement of Omisore’s ambition by Mimiko in Osogbo, on Saturday.
Mimiko jocularly had referred to Omisore
as “Your Excellency”, adding that the Ife-born politician was “a
misunderstood Nigerian, whom history will vindicate”.
Reacting, Osun State PDP Chairman,
Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, said the ACN was afraid of the PDP and Omisore,
adding that the PDP needed not rig to oust Aregbesola from power.
Olaoluwa said, “You can see that the
Osun ACN is afraid of the PDP. Omisore just came to Osogbo to receive
the highest award bestowed on him by Lions Club International in company
with his friend and Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko.
“Why these reactions from the ACN? What
is wrong in Mimiko putting the records straight by saying Omisore is a
misunderstood Nigerian and that history will soon vindicate him?
“The PDP has yet to conduct its
primaries and the ACN has come up with Omisore as the candidate of the
party in the oncoming election. We have four qualified aspirants in the
governorship race. Why are they picking on Omisore?”
