The newly constituted Osun State Governorship
Election Petition Tribunal led by Justice Elizabeth Ikpejime has fixed Monday
for ruling on the request by the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and its
governorship candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore
that the tribunal should not determine the competence of their petition at the
pre-hearing stage.
Earlier, Ikpejime at the commencement of the
pre-trial of the petition filed by Omisore and his party against the re-election
of Governor Rauf Aregbesola and the All Progressives Congress (APC) cautioned
politicians on the need to allow the panel carry out its assignment without
distraction that could jeopardize quick dispensation of justice.
The lead counsel of the petitioner, Dr Alex
Izinyon (SAN) at the sitting yesterday withdrew an application seeking
extension of time for the ongoing inspection of the election materials and had
it struck
out on the basis that the issue would be sorted
out administratively.
He had asked the tribunal to defer the
preliminary objection which is challenging the competence of the petition till
hearing stage, arguing that the application of the respondents should be heard.
