The All Nigeria People’s Party, (ANPP)
as well as the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) will hold their
conventions today Saturday May 11, 2013.
The conventions are to ratify the decisions of the parties to merge ahead of the 2015 general elections.
While the ANPP would be holding its
convention in Gusau, Zamfara State, that of the CPC is scheduled to hold
at Eagle Square, Abuja.
National publicity secretary of the
CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, confirmed that the CPC convention would be
holding in Abuja on Saturday as scheduled explaining that contrary to
reports, no court has stopped the convention.
He said under the Electoral Act, the convention would be to ratify the merger process and that the party is prepared for it.
The ANPP, CPC and the Action Congress
of Nigeria (ACN) have agreed to merge into one to form the All
Progressives Congress (APC) and as part of the process, are required to
hold conventions to ratify the decision.
The ACN held its convention in Lagos
last month while tomorrow’s conventions by the two remaining parties
would serve to seal up the deal for the individual parties that they are
ready to wind up and dissolve into the emerging party .
