How We Foiled Plot To Impeach Amaechi – House Leader

Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Julius Lloyd, has said that lawmakers in the state Assembly foiled the plot by the Felix Obuah-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to use five legislators to impeach Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, following an alarm raised by the Speaker, Hon. Otelemaba Daniel Amachree.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Dr. Martins Nwogu, has warned the five lawmakers allegedly involved in the impeachment plot against Amaechi and Amachree to avoid engaging in actions that could breach the constitution of the country.
Amachree had on Tuesday night alerted the public about a plot by some ‘Abuja politicians’ to impeach him and the state governor, adding that a fake mace had been smuggled into the state to enable five lawmakers to hold an emergency session where the plot would be executed.
In a telephone interview with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt yesterday, Lloyd, who represents Emohua constituency in the House, said: “Well, the Speaker raised the alarm because we are witnesses to a situation where people impeach the governor in a hotel. That is why the Speaker raised the alarm. When 27 members are suspended from the House, what will be the next action is another scene of the act. So, the Speaker raised the alarm to forestall Scene Three of Act Two.”
He described the suspension of 27 state lawmakers as not only laughable and unconstitutional, but contemptuous of court, since there was a court order stopping the action.
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Aviation has said it will prosecute the owners of the controversial aircraft with registration number N565RS because it allegedly operated in Nigeria’s airspace through making false claims.
Special Media Assistant to Aviation Minister, Joe Obi, said investigations by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) revealed that the operators of the aircraft obtained flight clearances using the name of Caverton Helicopters, which disowned the transaction.
Also the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sir Austin Opara, has declared that President Goodluck Jonathan is not behind the conflict within the Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Opara also dismissed insinuations that the Presidency was fuelling the anti-Amaechi group in the state.
Addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, Opara pointedly denied the alleged meddlesomeness of President Jonathan in the festering political impasse in the state.
In a related development, Following threats to impeach the Governor Amaechi, the North-East Youth Progressive Forum (NEYPF) has declared its support and solidarity for the embattled governor, saying that the latter must be allowed to exercise his fundamental human rights as enshrined in the constitution.
