The three-day siege on the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), by the former World Federation Cruiserweight Boxing Champion, Bash Ali, has ended with the PDP national chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, promising to look into the pugilist’s case. A settlement was reached yesterday after Ali’s eventual meeting with Tukur.
Ali had defied the early morning rain and arrived at the Wadata Plaza edifice of the PDP around 10am barricading the main entrance on the third day of his protest. Staff and visitors pleaded with Ali to no avail. Altercation later ensued between the boxer and a female protocol officer with the political party who couldn’t stomach Ali’s action. They both exchanged uncharitable words to the chagrin of journalists and onlookers.
At about 11:30am, when the convoy of the national chairman arrived, onlookers had anticipated a showdown between the chairman’s security men and Ali, who solidly stood in the front of the main entrance gate. Sensing the danger, the convoy avoided the main gate and opted for the back gate which was unknown to Ali and the newsmen. At about the same time, Ali was whisked inside the building on the orders of Tukur who met with him behind-closed doors.
After about 20 minutes of interaction, the boxer emerged and briefed journalists on the outcome of his meeting with Tukur. He said the PDP national chairman has promised again to cause things to happen in a couple of days.
