Indications have emerged that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)
would produce the chairman for the emerging All Progressives Congress
(APC).
A source that was at a meeting of the merging committee held
yesterday in Abuja and presided over by a chieftain of the ACN and
Chairman of the merger committee, Chief Tom Ikimi disclosed this to
Daily Sun in confidence.
The source said the ANPP was given the slot of secretary of the
emerging APC, while Congress for Progressive Change would take the
position of national treasurer.
Other positions of national officers were subject of discussion at a
caucus meeting of each of the respective parties held yesterday night in
Abuja.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had recently
expressed concern over the delay in the composition of national officers
of the APC, which it noted could constitute an encumbrance to its
registration bid.
Speaking with newsmen after the closed-door meeting, Ikimi assured
Nigerians that the emerging party would scale the rigour of registration
and would soon announce names of its interim officers.
“It was a very important meeting that continued from last Tuesday. We
have reviewed the processes ongoing as regards to registration of our
party and looked into various issues in order that we can carry all the
merging parties along. This evening there will be caucus meeting of the
merging parties,” Ikimi said.
