Rivers state Governor and chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF),
Mr Rotimi Amaechi during a condolence visit to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in
Lagos, on the death of his mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, on Friday
said voters should guard their votes, if democracy must live on in
Nigeria.
Apparently inspired by Alhaja Mogaji, who Amaechi described as a
mother who gave her best to the society, he urged those she left behind
to emulate her virtues which the whole country is now celebrating.
Amaechi urged voters to discard the idea of leaving the protection
of their votes to other people. He said if people keep watch over their
votes it will difficult for any one to alter the results, adding that
only then can their votes count
“Things should be done in such a way that the electorate defend their
votes, not just leaving them in the custody of the police alone or
leaving the place after voting,” he told reporters.
