Lagos was yesterday agog as political leaders in the country and beyond converged on Tafawa Balewa Square for the 8- Day Fidau Prayer in honour of the late mother of the former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Alhaja Abibat Asabi Mogaji,
Leading the pack of dignitaries was President of Ghana, Mr John Mahama, who was represented at the event by Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Dan Abotakpi.On the list were the Governors Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, his Edo State counterpart, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Governor of Lagos, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.
Others were Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, that of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajumobi and Africa’s riches man, Aliko Dangote.
The carnival-like event also attracted former governors including Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Chief Bisi Akande, Chief John Oyegun, and Chief Achike Udenwa as well as former deputy governors.
Market men and women from the state and beyond also paid their last respect to their departed leader.
Speaking at the prayer session, the Executive Secretary Muslim Ummar of South-West Nigeria, Professor Dawud Noibi said that death was a necessary end that would come when it would come.
He affirmed that at death one was bound to regret either for deeds one had done or what one ought not to have done and added that Abibat Mogaji spent the whole of her life to the service of mankind and Almighty Allah.
The Muslim leader called on Nigerians to always think about the implication of their actions, and observed that it was only those who devote their lives to the service of mankind and Allah that would be rewarded in the hereafter.
Noibi lamented that Nigerians were busy looting public funds in pursuit of earthly glory, devoting themselves to the treasures of lives and reminded them that the treasures of the hereafter were better.
The Muslim Ummar emphasised that education based on accountability to Allah should be the core of education in the country.
