The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal has declared that he was in the National Assembly to represent the interest of all Nigerians and not only Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
Tambuwal, while speaking yesterday in Ilawe-Ekiti, heaquarters of Ekiti West local government of Ekiti State, where he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of the town, also said that good performance by public office holders should be commended without giving consideration to political affiliation. The Speaker reacted to the recent action of some members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun state who criticised him for praising the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola. Expressing satisfaction with Governor Kayode Fayemi’s giant stride in Ekiti State, he urged the governor not to relent in delivering good governance to the people. Tambuwal thanked the Oba Ajibade Alabi for the chieftaincy title which was part of the activities marking the one year anniversary of his coronation as the traditional ruler of the community. While speaking at the event, governor Kayode Fayemi, lauded the leadership style of Alhaji Tambuwal in the house of representatives, describing him as a “leader”. Fayemi praised the people of the community for turning out in their numbers and noted that the occasion was a demonstration of the love the people had for the king. He said, “The large turnout shows the importance of hard work and commitment to the people. I am very sure that Ilawe would be different during the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Oba.” The governor assured the community to use every resource in its power to ensure the completion of the ongoing civic centre in the community promising that his government would not disappoint the community in providing social amenities. The monarch, who said the event would have taken place on April 24, said it was postponed in honour of the late deputy governor of the state, Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka. He pleaded with the governor to sustain the developmental style in the community and the government’s support towards the ultra modern civic centre. He also urged the government to speed up the construction of a modern hospital and housing estate in the community.
