Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the
weekend, called on its National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, to call
the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal, to
order for allegedly making unwarranted comments on the state politics.
The chapter made the call as a result of the recent visits by the
speaker to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, during which he had commended the
governor for the laudable achievements he recorded less than three years
after he assumed office.
Tambuwal alongside other prominent members of the PDP including former
Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar visited the state recently for the
official launch of Opon Imon, an initiative of the Aregbesola
administration. Both Atiku and Tambuwal hailed Aregbesola’s
achievements.
The latest visit of Tambuwal was the second time he would be visiting
Aregbesola this year, a development which the chapter considered as
incredible, especially considering his commendation of Aregbesola’s
programmes.
But the chapter in a statement by its Chairman, Mr. Ganiyu Olaoluwa,
said it was unbecoming of a national leader of the party like Tambuwal
to praise-sing the governor each time he was in the state.
Olaoluwa, who condemned the visits and utterances of Tambuwal in the
state, explained that the actions of the speaker in recent time raise
poser as to whether he “is a member of the PDP or a supporter of
Aregbesola.”
He observed that the recent action of Tambuwal was that of a “prodigal
son,” thereby calling on the party’s national leadership to check him
before he spoils the party.
Also, the party described the recent statement credited to the state
Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) that the party should look for a
credible candidate ahead of the 2014 governorship poll as careless
statement.
He said the party’s aspirants “are all competent individuals with good
educational background to lead the state. The ACN’s statement was a
misguided and careless one, which shows that the party was afraid of the
PDP in the poll.”
