DELSU Rape Saga: Fresh Crisis Hits School Authorities

The story of the alleged rape of a 400 level student (name withheld) of the Delta State University, Abraka, by one Ifeanyi (surname withheld), a lecturer of the same department, seems to have taken a different
dimension as the victim is currently facing an impending expulsion and prosecution for posting the nude picture of the said Ifeanyi which went viral on the net.
It would be recalled that  the Obiaruku-born lecturer was allegedly caught in the private residence of his female student, while trying to have his way into her carnally.

According to the report which went viral on various social networks and online news sites, the lecturer had gone to the hostel of the victim who offers his course, THA 203, as a carry over and assured her that he was going to upgrade her scores to enable her scale through, if she agrees to sleep with him.

As it were, ‘‘Ifeanyi, a PhD student of the University, had on that fateful day (Friday) gone to see the girl at her hostel room with the course script (THA 203), wanting to upgrade the scores after she might have agreed to sleep with him,’’ a source told LEADERSHIP FRIDAY.

The report had it that “on entering, the girl’s boy friend came knocking and heard her screaming ‘rape’! alarmed by the shouting of the victim, the boy friend and other students forced the door open, only to see a naked Ifeanyi.

Confirming the incident when Ifeanyi was contacted by a source recently, he said: “I visited  her, after she invited me to come over to her apartment , of which I later realized it was a frame -up with the way the incident unfolded.

‘‘Fortunately, she did not report the matter to the police of which I did at the Abraka  police station. But the police and the University authorities are on top of the matter,’’ he added.

A leader of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in a phone chat with LEADERSHIP FRIDAY, who spoke on anonymity, decried the act of the lecturer saying: ‘‘It is barbaric for a lecturer to indulge in such act. We even heard that he and the Dean of Students Affairs in the University, who are in the same confraternity, are trying to victimise the student.

“As I speak with you now, the student is under the threat of  being expelled from the school,’’

Meanwhile, Delta Women, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has waded into the matter, promising it would  dig deep to unravel  the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Speaking with Ms. Elsie Ijoroju-Reed, founder of the NGO, she questioned the lecturer/student relationship policy of the University saying, ‘‘what would make a lecturer visit the apartment of his student in company of her examination script?’’

LEADERSHIP FRIDAY was told by Ms. Elsie that her NGO was called upon to address the issue of a female student of DELSU being intimidated, threatened and blackmailed by one Mr Ifeanyi, a lecturer,  whom the NGO gathered, of the the Department of Theatre Arts, DELSU. She said his conduct was carried out in a bid to influence her examination scores in exchange for sex.
