The long speculated romance between Senator Rashidi Ladoja of Accord
Party (AP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by former
governor Adebayo Alao-Akala in Oyo State, will be consummated tomorrow
with the inauguration of a 10-member committee jointly put in place by
the two former governors of the state.
The panel to which the two camps have nominated five members each, is
to work out the modalities for “reconciliation, integration and
actualisation of the alliance,” it was learnt in Ibadan yesterday.
Daily Sun had predicted the political alignment in a story: ‘Oyo PDP and its many Battles’ published in April, this year.
But, a PDP chieftain and former aide to Alao-Akala, Agbaakin Kehinde
Olaosebikan, denied report that the PDP was to be swallowed by Ladoja’s
AP.
He disclosed to Daily Sun that Alao-Akala had no intention whatsoever
of dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join AP or any other
party, stressing that the former governor as the mainstay of the PDP in
the state was merely making solid efforts towards fortifying the party
in the 33 local governments of the state in a strategic manner.
Olaosebikan said: “I can say with all confidence that Otunba Christopher
Adebayo Alao-Akala is not leaving his party, the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) for Accord or any other party. The former governor is full
of activity now with the reconciliation of aggrieved members of the
party and putting measures in place to ensure that the vicious
government of ACN is routed out of the state in 2015.”
The former chairman of Oluyole Local Government under the Akala
regime added that the two former governors had fully agreed to work
together in the interest of the teeming masses of the state to provide
leadership that would put the interest of the common man.
The clarification came as another stakeholder of the party in the
state, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),
Ms. Jumoke Akinjide, yesterday threw her weight behind the ongoing
rapprochement between the duo, describing it as “ a step in the right
direction.”
In a statement at the weekend, the minister, a former ally of Akala,
who had also been behind moves to woo back Ladoja into the PDP, after
falling apart with Akala said her position had consistently been to
encourage the return of Senator Ladoja, a founding Board of Trustees
member and former PDP governor, to the PDP.
She commended efforts by the PDP Governor’s Forum; Governor Shema
-led Committee and the South-West Zonal PDP and Dr Yomi Finnih
Reconciliation Committee to find lasting solutions to the current
disunity in the Oyo State PDP, stressing that no one could hijack the
party machinery; rather, every loyal party member must unite to form a
cohesive and inclusive state party executive
