The Emir of Kano Ado Bayero celebrated 50 years of reign
as the ruler of the emirate today as he asked Kano residents,
traditional title holders, politicians and whosever feels offended by
the 50 years of his reign to forgive him.
The Emir was speaking during a special Durba organized to mark his
golden jubilee as he celebrate fifty years on the throne of Kano
emirate.
Thousands of people including the Nigeria’s Vice President Namadi Sambo converged to witness the traditional Durba.
Three years after the Nigeria’s independent, Alhaji Ado Bayero was
turbaned the emir of Kano from the Fulani dynasty of the Emir Abdullahi
Bayero.
52 years down the line, the emir was said to have exemplified a
leadership style that transformed the ancient city of Kano into more
vibrant commercial center of northern Nigeria.
Part of the emir’s legacy was preaching for peace and unity among
different ethnic group, call for meaningful and sustainable leadership
as well tolerance and hospitality among others.
“My people, I urged you to continue to leave in peace with each
other; for me, I have no grudges with any one and for those who offended
me knowingly or unknowingly I forgive them, and those who felt I step
on their toes intentionally or unintentionally I seek forgiveness from
them all.”
It would be recalled that the Emir of Kano survived an attempt to
murder him when his convoy was waylaid and attacked losing a few of his
aides in the process.
For the sultan of Sokoto Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar, the Emir’s fifty
years on the throne of Kano emirate was a blissful period for the people
of Kano state and indeed the traditional institutions in Northern
Nigeria as he pray for peace and stability in the Boko haram affected
areas of Yobe and Maiduguri.
Highlight of the celebration was the colourful horse riding and
paying homage to the emir by the district heads and other traditional
title holders.
