NGF: We Mean Well For Nigeria – Jang

Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State has said that the decision of his colleagues to form a new Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) was in the best interest of the country.
Governor Jang who is the chairman of the rival NGF, said it was wrong for the governors in the country to align themselves with the “manipulation and sham of an election conducted by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, who won the contest with 19 votes as against the 16 scored by Jang.

Addressing the media yesterday in Abuja, Jang in company of governors Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and Peter Obi (Anambra), accused Amaechi of refusing to step down before the election and proceeded “forcefully to conduct the elections even after it was clear that the NGF’s constitution never envisaged re-election for a sitting governor.”
Speaking at the event, Mimiko said the governors regretted the incident of Friday last week, but asserted that “it would have been double jeopardy to allow what transpired to stand.”
“I must say that not one of us is proud of what has happened. We don’t feel proud of what has happened. But some of us believe it is necessary to ensure that things are done right in this country. Let me also say that a few of us have received a lot of bashing over this issue.
“But, we believe that we must stand by what is true and just. But the fundamental question that will never go away no matter how you look at it is the fact that the governors forum is a voluntary association of equals who have decided to come together to leverage on synergy and pursue their collective interest. Everybody is there by volition, anybody can pull out without consequence.
