A Port Harcourt High Court on Friday ordered the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) not to take further action against Gov. Chibuike Amaechi of
Rivers.
The court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Ogbuji, directed the PDP
not to take action against the governor pending the hearing of a
substantive suit challenging his suspension from the party.
The judge gave the order in Port Harcourt following a preliminary
application brought by Gov Amaechi’s lawyers, led by Mr Akin Olujinmi,
(SAN).
The judge ordered the PDP to maintain status quo on the matter and summoned the party to appear before it on June 6.
He directed Amaechi to serve the PDP the necessary court processes through pasting and publication in the national dailies.
In an interview with newsmen, Olujinmi said the court asked the governor’s lawyers to put the PDP on notice.
``We are in court to set aside the suspension of Gov. Amaechi by the PDP,’’ he said.
Olujinmi said the governor’s counsel prayed the court to give an
interim order restraining the PDP from doing anything further based on
his purported suspension. (NAN)
